“Liking” my blog posts.

I thought I would share something that didn’t seem to obvious to me at first until I realized that virtually every other social media outlet works this way. If you want to “like” my posts you’ll have to create some credentials and sign in to WordPress. You don’t have to do anything else other than be signed in.

I bring this up because unlike a lot of other social media places like Facebook, you’re allowed to read someone’s posts here without signing in. To me that sends a false signal that I the reader should be able to do other things to, like comment or like. But when you go to “like” it, it’s not obvious that you have to be signed in. If you click on the like button, nothing happens. But that in itself didn’t tell me that I had to be signed in. I just saw it as a poorly designed like system that had no feedback. So my wife would “like” my posts (or so she thought) but I would never see the like.

It turns out that when your signed in the “Like” turns into “Liked”. That’s the feedback that was missing. While it’s not necessary, I certainly would appreciate the likes. So take a minute to create some credentials. I’m pretty sure that once you sign in, you can stay signed in so you don’t have to do it again each time you read a post.

  1. This may sound like a dumb question, but where do I go to “sign-in”? I can “leave a reply” like I’m doing right now but I’ll have to “fill in” my email and name or “click an icon to log in. I’m not sure what icon is being referred.

    1. I opened a browser where I wasn’t signed in and when I clicked the like button it opened a small browser window that said “Log in to your account”. You could log in or create an account from there.
